Lady in Black Dress

1833
oval: 9.20 cm x 7.60 cm
originaler vergoldeter Metallrahmen

This portrait of an unkown lady stands right at the beginning of Lemarchand's short creative period (1833-1839) and shows an impressive technical and artistic quality. The background and the lady's posture are plain, her view is directed to the observer, her face evenly illuminated. The painting technique suggests that Lemarchand learned miniature painting either with Aubry or one of his students. He made his living with another profession.
