Fontenay, Louis Henry de

Fontenay, the son of French parents, grew up in Amsterdam, where he became a multitalented artist, painting portrait miniatures on ivory in addition to genre and historical pictures in oils. Still in Amsterdam he studied under Autissier. Between 1824 and 1827 Fontenay made his home in The Hague, where he was appointed court painter. After his return to Amsterdam he settled in Paris for good, where his miniatures were shown at the Salon from 1850 to 1852.
