Louis André Fabre

Fabre, Louis André
(Geneva 1750-1814 La Chaux-de-Fonds)
Fabre became a citizen of Geneva in 1790 and ran calico factory there. In approx 1796/97 he worked with the Genevan enamel painter Soiron. Possibly he lived for a while in Paris. Up to now only one miniature portrait signed by him is well known, the portrait of a military wife out of the era of the French Revolution (displayed in Brussels 1912, panel 37, no. 174). Fabre was Bouvier' s teacher and he painted enamel images in addition to miniatures. His works are so similar to those of Soyer, that they are often confused with them.
