Périn-Salbreux began his painting studies with Ganés, called Clermont, and later went to Paris to continue studying with Lemonnier and Sicardi. Following Roslin`s advice to specialize in miniature painting, Périn - who also showed extraordinary skills in various other techniques - quickly became a reputable professional in this field. His gift was especially appreciated by the Parisian aristocracy. From 1793 to 1798, he exposed his works in the Parisian Salon, however, he retired in 1799 due to financial difficulties and went back to Reims in order to take over his father`s textiles factory.
