Amormino

Gentleman in Dark Blue Coat

The sitter's coat and the background are painted in bodycolour which gives a certain heaviness to the picture and contrasts with the gentleman's face which seems to be lightly drawn. Only a few of Amormino's miniatures are known. This portrait is one of his two works mentioned by Schidlof. Amormino's name appears in Augustin's student register circa 1814. As his name was crossed out it remains questionable whether he actually studied with the famous teacher or whether he interrupted his studies.
