At the beginning of his career Anreiter mostly copied his teacher Daffinger; later he began to experiment with structure and colours himself. This portrait of a stout lady in front of a shore background shows that the artist was successful in his endeavour to develop a painting style of his own. The sitter's unusual posture and her pink silk scarf determine the picture.
