Alois von Anreiter
Anreiter, Alois von
(Bozen 1803 - 1862 Vienna)
Born into a Tyrolean artist family, he was first active as a merchant and didn' t join the Viennese Academy until 1825, when he began studying historical painting by Nepomuk Ender and Johann Redl. He probably began to paint miniatures as early as during his student years, because even his first publicly exhibited miniatures received general acknowledgement due to their technical perfection. He completed his studies of miniature painting by Daffinger, whose work he copied and by whom his style had been influenced. Apart from aquarelle paintings, he also painted in oil. His customers belonged to the wealthy middle class, and many of them were also artists.
