Louis François Aubry
Aubry, Louis François
(Paris 1767 - 1851 Paris)
Aubry was a student of Vincent and Isabey, both influencing him significantly as to technique and style. His artistic work is evidenced by his exhibiting between 1798 and 1833. In 1808 he received a second- class medal, in 1828 a first class one. In 1832 he was appointed Knight of the Legion d' Honneur. During the Restoration period he created his major miniature portraits, some of them showing members of the highest aristocratic circles. Aubry' s role as a teacher has been even more important: many of the miniaturists of his time were his students (some of who outdid him later, too) for example: Saint, Millet, Meuret.
