Jean Urbain Guérin

Guérin, Jean Urbain
(Straßburg 1760-1836 Obernai)
Guérin learned painting from his father initially, later on from Huin and after 1785 in Paris from Regnault. Soon he devoted himself to miniature painting under the guidance of the miniaturist Jean-Baptiste Weyler who also came from the Alsace. Guérin was ostracized in 1792 and found shelter in the Alsace. He exhibited portrait miniatures in the Pariser Salon from 1798 to 1827, amongst other things the portrait of General Kléber. He returned to Obernai in the Alsace in 1833. One of his pupils was Franz Napoleon Heigel.
