Marguérite Gérard was the sister of Marie Anne, the wife of the painter Fragonard, and lived with both of them. She exhibited in the salons from 1799 to 1824 and obtained a medal first class. Gérard worked in oil, pastel and watercolour and was proficient in the technique of glass painting.
