Chasselat was matriculated as a pupil of Vien at the Royal Academy in 1767, where he had registered his age to be 19 (according to this he would have been born in 1748). He had the title Peintre en miniature de Mesdames de France and exhibited in the Salons in 1793, 1798, 1806 and 1810. He was inspired by Hall. Signed works from this miniaturist are rare.
