Lady in White Dress with Rose

circa 1835
rectangular: 9.50 cm x 7.70 cm
originaler vergoldeter Metallrahmen

This portrait presents a young lady in a white dress with rose decoration in front of a tender cloudy sky. Daffinger's typical quick brush guidance is visible in the sitter's dress; the decoration is restricted to a few details. The lady's gleaming skin is taken up in the rose blossom whereas her shining eyes reappear in the shimmering pearls. In the 1820's Daffinger had developed a specific type of portrait showing ladies "en pleine parade" in an abundant decoration which became the typical Viennese "Biedermeier" portrait. After his daughter's death in 1841 he preferred to create simple pictures.
