In 1819 Dubourjal entered the Ècole des Beaux Arts and exhibited between 1824 and 1853 portrait miniatures at the Paris Salon. His patrons were mostly French aristocrats. Among his works is a portrait (done 1853) showing James Knox Polk (1795-1849), the president of the United States of America.
