Albert Josef is one of the three sons of the gem cutter, Joseph Theer. In 1820 the family moved from Austria - Silesia to Vienna, where Albert studied at the engraver' s department of the academy. In 1835 his miniatures and portrait lithographs were publicly exhibited for the first time. His work is strongly influenced by Moritz Michael Daffinger, whom he often copied.
