Thomas Hargreaves

Hargreaves, Thomas
(Liverpool 1774 - 1846/47 Liverpool)
Hargreaves began his studies at the Royal Academy in London at the age of sixteen. Three years later he became assistant to Sir Thomas Lawrence, for whom he worked for several years. For health reasons he had to return to Liverpool around 1795. Between 1798 and 1835 Hargreaves showed his pictures intermittently in the Royal Academy, the Society of British Artists and the Liverpool Academy, which he also joined. He had several sons, some of whom took up miniature painting as well. Hargreaves painted in oils and watercolour on paper and on ivory.
