Louis Marie Sicard, genannt Sicardi
Sicard, called Sicardi, Louis Marie
(1743 Avignon -1825 Paris)
After he had been trained by his father Jean-Pierre-Antoine Sicard he presumably studied under Brenet. In 1771 he was appointed Professeur adjoint at the academy in Bordeaux but it seems that he didn' t attend any exhibitions there. Around 1770 he named himself Peintre du roi du Portugal. In 1774/75 he left for Paris where he painted several miniatures of the king for the Foreign Office. These miniatures where mounted on valuable boxes and given away as official state presents. Between 1791 and 1819 Sicardi exhibited at the Salon and was one of the most popular miniaturists of his days. Apart from miniature painting he also painted oils and created humorous-erotic designs for graphic prints. Among his pupils were Isabey, Périn-Salbreux, Bôbe, Bouchardy and Carrier.
