Heigel like his son, Franz Napoleon Heigel. Josef Heigel was an excellent miniaturist. Following his studies at the Academy in Munich, Heigel went to Paris, where he became very successful as a portrait miniaturist. From 1817 to 1837 he participatedregularly in the exhibitions of the Paris Salon.
