Saunders worked as miniaturist and as copperplate engraver in London. Between 1772 and 1776, he exposed his miniatures at the Free Society of Artists as well as at other institutes; from 1778 to 1800, they were to be seen at the Royal Academy, and in 1808 he presented them at the British Institute.
