Mussard descended from a Geneva family of goldsmiths and enamelists and worked as a miniaturist in Holland and France. He painted in watercolours on vellum. Some of his miniatures showing members of the House of Orange-Nassau can be seen at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
