This Geneva born artist moved to London around 1726 where he became a popular enamelist. He was a friend of William Hogarth and the actor Garrick. Approx. in 1750 he left London for Paris where he was dubbed Raphael of enamel painting. He became a member of the Royal Academy, was granted a flat in the Louvre by the king and exhibited his enamel portraits at the Salon in 1752, 1755 and 1757. Due to a mental disease he spent his last years in a home in Charenton.
