Hone, Nathaniel the Elder

Nathaniel Hone was an Irish born painter, settled in London in 1742 and travelled to Rome for studies. In 1752 he became a member of the academy in Florence. Back to London he exhibited his paintings between 1760 and 1768 at the Incorporated Society of Arts of which he was one of the first members. In 1769 he became a member of the Royal Academy and exposed his paintings there. He worked in oil, produced enamels and miniatures and even worked as a graphic printer. Nathaniel Hone was the father of Horace and John Camillus Hone.
