The miniaturist named »Hipolite« who often signed his works with »h..D.«, was a member of the St Luc academy in Paris and possibly lived for a time in Rouen. In the Royal Academy he seems to have been sponsored by Vien. With his wife Catherine Françoise Huet, he had a son, Joseph-Auguste, who also called himself Hipolite and who was an artist and actor. Most of the miniatures by François Hippolyte Desbuissons show a monochrome profile on blue ground.
