The young lady is seated on a yellow divan on the lake side holding a miniature in her hand which gives a touch of privacy to the picture. The romantic background shows the setting sun above the lake and a crimson curtain draped over a tree trunk. The traditional assumption that the lady is Louise of Orléans (Palermo 1812-1850 Ostende) cannot be maintained due to the age of the sitter. 1
