In bibliographical reference books the son of the porcelain painter Franz Kronnowetter had often been mistaken for his father. After his studies at the Vienna Academy Kronnowetter travelled first to Italy and then to Russia in 1821 or 1826, where he mainly stayed in Saint Petersburg. In 1831 he revisited Vienna for a short period, then obviously returned to Saint Petersburg for the rest of his life.
