Young Lady with a Harp

circa 1785
round: 6.90 cm x 0.00 cm
Elfenbeindose mit Goldmontur und Grisaillemalerei an der Bodeninnenseite

The image of this young lady playing the harp represents a well-known type. The instrument rests on the lady's right shoulder, her fingers pluck the strings, and her eyes are turned to the observer. The lady seems tender and fragile in her light pink dress and the fashionable waistline. Keman's painting technique combines a linear, delicate guidance of the brush with broad gouache painting. The modelling of the surface, which is not very detailed as far as the dress is concerned, is compensated by the subtle shades.
