Anthelme François Lagrénée

Lagrenée, Anthelme François
(Paris 1774 - 1832 Paris)
Lagrenée was a pupil of his father, Louis-François Lagrenée, and worked afterwards as a very successful miniaturist in Paris and Saint Petersburg. The Empress Alexandra Feodorowna had her portrait painted by him, along with many artists from the stage. Between 1799 and 1831 he exhibited at the Paris Salon. Apart from miniatures Lagrenée produced historical and animal paintings in oils and cameo imitations in the grey tints of the Grisaille style.
