Lady in White Dress with Red Cashmere Shawl

Félicité Laborey painted this portrait of an unknown young lady in a high-waisted and low-cut chemise dress of flowing white material with Cashmere shawl. Not only the lady's dress but the whole representation is typical for the first decade of the 19th century: the sitter's dreamy look is directed into the distance and her posture shows gracefulness and nonchalance. Her shape stands out before the dark background and her features are slightly embellished.
