Lady in Light Blue Gown with Book

This lady in a light blue gown is seated in a chair with dark red upholstery. She is resting her left arm on the armrest and holding a small red book in her hand, in which she marks a page with her forefinger. Her tender shape, the cool light blue of her gown and her pale complexion, which is hardly distinguishable from her almost translucent fichu, correspond to the reserved sadness which is expressed by her open-hearted and unaffected face. Dubourg' s representation of a woman who is free from coquetry, painted in tender and highly graded shades without corresponding to a specific ideal, is very touching.
